From 1 March 2023, tier 2 of the EU Ecodesign Regulation for electronic displays, e.g. TV sets, will come into force. This will be accompanied by new, stricter minimum requirements for the energy efficiency of the devices. In addition, there are also specifications for display types that were previously exempt from the efficiency requirements, such as TVs with 8K resolution.
For consumers, this does not result in any restrictions when buying TVs. Manufacturers are committed to sustainability and environmental goals and support the energy efficiency and ecodesign requirements. They will ensure that all TVs placed on the market in the European Union after the deadline comply with the new ecodesign requirements. TVs already placed on the EU internal market before 1 March 2023 are not affected by the new limits and may continue to be sold.
ZVEI provides a Q&A on the new rules and sustainability goals of ecodesign as well as on the energy label, which you can download here.
