Microelectronics is one of the most important foundations of modern technology and serves as the backbone of the European economy. As an indispensable component of photovoltaic and wind systems, electric cars, 5G networks, industrial plants and many other applications, electronic components enable progress in key industries and drives innovation.

With its central role across the entire value chain—from design and semiconductors to printed circuit boards—microelectronics supports Europe's goals in digitalisation, climate neutrality, and technological sovereignty.

However, the industry also faces significant challenges: supply chain risks, a shortage of skilled labour, and high international dependencies highlight the need for targeted measures. The ZVEI is actively working to strengthen the resilience of the European microelectronics ecosystem and to promote sustainable development—securing a strong position in global competition.
