The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) ran a consultation process until 25 September 2023 on the proposal for a comprehensive restriction of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) under the REACH chemicals regulation, which would ban several thousand substances with a wide range of properties in one fell swoop. The industry views this undifferentiated approach with great concern.
The restriction plans would have consequences for the entire industry and in particular for the electrical and digital industry, whose products provide important solutions on the way to the all-electric society and thus to achieving the EU climate targets. PFAS are currently an integral part of these technologies and cannot be replaced in many applications for the time being.
The ZVEI units have therefore created factsheets to provide an overview of the use of PFAS. This list is continuously reviewed and updated (as of November 2023)
The position developed in the TF PFAS can be found here. A press release from VDA, VDMA and ZVEI can be found here and the corresponding presentation here.
