Food Contact Materials and Home Appliances - Guide for Good Manufacturing Practice

In addition to product design, product safety is of central importance for manufacturers of household electrical appliances, especially for appliances that come into contact with food.

In order to achieve and verify this important goal for our industry, the European Commission has issued numerous regulations for food contact materials and equipment.

Regulation (EC) No. 2023/2006 on "Good Manufacturing Practice for Materials and Objects" includes the definition of requirements for materials (also in home appliances) intended to come into contact with food. Based on the regulation mentioned above, the brochure offers a concrete interpretation of the requirements as well as non-binding recommendations for the household appliance industry and its supply chain. It is also aimed particularly at readers who do not yet have a comprehensive understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and is intended as a tool for communicating the requirements in the supply chain. 

This booklet is a revision of the guide first published by ZVEI in 2016, which was updated and written in 2022 by members of the ZVEI Food Contact Materials working group.
