The past year has been demanding for the automation industry. Despite all this, a number of milestones were set that will be driven forward this year. In September last year, the Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) was founded. It provides the appropriate platform to fill the idea of the asset administration shell with life, to generate partners and supporters and to create standards. First results will be presented this year.
In the DC research project DC Industrie 2, four model plants, which technically resemble real production plants, have already been equipped with DC components and successfully put into operation. The circle of interested parties is growing steadily and more and more test installations are being planned or are going into operation. As with DC Industrie 2, the Drive 4.0 demonstrator and the Drive 2030 thesis paper laid the foundations for developments that will be further advanced in 2021. The idea of CO2-neutral production can become reality with this innovative strength.
And ultimately, 2021 will once again be dominated by Industry 4.0. The term has been used in its current form for 10 years now. The most important showcases for the industry and automation here are the Hanover trade fair and SPS - Smart Production Solutions. Even though the Hanover trade fair will only take place digitally this year, many exciting innovations can be expected.
